Support for Nx Witness v5 ends in January 1st 2027*. Generation 6 (Gen 6) is the current platform, the upgrade is free, and it's done directly in the client. Gen 6 Pro keeps the perpetual license model you chose — with a substantially more capable system behind it.
*Starting January 1, 2027, Nx Cloud connectivity and cloud-dependent services will no longer maintain backward compatibility for systems running Nx Witness v5.1 and earlier. Continued availability beyond this date is not guaranteed, and these systems may lose cloud connection and features at any time after January 1, 2027.
What is Generation 6?
Generation 6 is the current generation of the Network Optix platform, Nx EVOS, which powers Nx Witness. It replaces the v5.x versioning and receives ongoing updates, such as the Generation 6 – December 2025 Update. Gen 6 Pro continues perpetual licensing. Upgrading from v5 Pro to Gen 6 Pro is free and performed in-client — your licensing model does not change.
Why upgrade now
Support for v5 ends in January 1st 2027*. Every update ships to Gen 6, not v5, so the longer a system stays on v5, the wider the gap grows — in capability, in security hardening, and soon in support. The upgrade is free, so the only cost of waiting is what you're not using.
What Gen 6 Pro adds over v5
Double the devices per server
Gen 6 raises the device limit to 256 cameras per server — double the previous capacity. This removes a software-side limitation that previously constrained hardware deployment.
Redesigned user management
Administrators can assign permissions to individual users and groups, with support for users belonging to multiple groups. Nested groups and permission inheritance make access control manageable in complex environments, and permissions are clearer to audit.
Temporary user access
Grant time-limited access without touching permanent roles. Create users with a defined expiration — useful for short-term staff, contractors, or law enforcement — and access removes itself when the clock runs out.
Camera Hotspots
Layer interactive icons over live video to jump directly between connected views. Click a hotspot to switch to a linked camera or an entire layout. Smarter event rules with Lists
Create, import, and edit data lists apply them to event rules in bulk. One rule with a list replaces dozens of manual entries, which keeps rule sets consistent in high.
Cloud workflows for every Pro system
Pro systems with a cloud connection gain real workflow tools, not just remote access. Nx Cloud Bookmarks capture key moments centrally, so incident review and collaboration happen from anywhere. Emails via Nx Cloud routes system notifications through the cloud service — no manual SMTP configuration.
Faster, sharper investigation tools
Advanced Object Search has been redesigned, and Object Search is now available in Nx Mobile, bringing attribute-based investigation to the field alongside live view, playback, and bookmarks.
Performance and infrastructure
NVIDIA hardware video decoding offloads playback from the CPU for smoother multi-stream viewing. Enhanced LDAP integration syncs user accounts with your directory service automatically.
What stays the same
Your license model. Gen 6 Pro is the same perpetual offering, with no changes to the existing sales process or license structure. You keep the ownership model you bought — the platform underneath it gets better.
