Nx Meta Server Application

The Nx Meta VMP Server application is a lightweight, powerful media server designed to discover, add, view, and manage system devices (e.g. IP cameras, I/O devices) and resources (e.g. users, web pages).

Microsoft Windows Operating System
The Nx Server application runs on Windows and includes an installation wizard and a Server Tray Tool that allows users to start / stop the Server application and access the Server Web Admin interface and Server Logs.

  • Supported Windows Versions
    • Windows 7 (July 2009)
    • Windows 8 (October 2012)
    • Windows 8.1 (October 2013)
    • Windows 10 (July 2015)
    • Windows Server 2008 (February 2008)
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 (July 2009)
    • Windows Server 2012 (August 2012)
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 (October 2013)
    • Windows 10 Enterprise (July 2015)
  • Minimum Supported Hardware Spec
The Nx Server application is extremely lightweight and can run on low-powered Windows-based hardware. Hardware should have at least 1GB of RAM and an Atom processor.

Ubuntu Linux Operating System

The Nx Server application supports Ubuntu Linux operating system with an installation package which must be installed using terminal.

  • Supported Ubuntu Linux Versions
    • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: “Xenial Xerus” (April 2016)
    • Ubuntu 18.04 LTS: “Bionic Beaver” (April 2018)
  • Minimum Supported Hardware Spec
The Nx Server application is extremely lightweight and can run on very low-powered Ubuntu Linux based hardware. Hardware should have at least 1GB of RAM and an Atom processor.

ARM Debian Flavors – Experimental

The Nx Server application has installation packages for various Debian ARM 32 bit and 64 bit distributions including Raspberry Pi, Banana Pi, Nano Pi, and NVIDIA Jetson developer boards.

  • Minimum Supported Hardware Spec
The Nx Server application is extremely lightweight and can run on very low-powered ARM hardware. Hardware used should have 1GB of RAM and an ARM Cortex A7 chipset or higher.
  • Typical challenges to expect when working with ARM devices
    • High CPU usage when there is no network hardware (chip) support
    • Network bandwidth for the specific device is usually lower than claimed by the specification due to network protocols implementation. For example, some older hardware models implement ethernet communication via USB hub.
    • Storage recording speed can be limited. There are not many chips with PCIe bus or a dedicated SATA interface. Some hardware configurations use SATA over USB controller, which introduces limitations.
    • Some dependencies can have compatibility issues (e.g. OpenSSL).
    • Video transcoding is not supported due to limited computing power

Virtualization / Container – Experimental

The Nx Server application can run well in virtual environments.

  • VMWare / Virtual Box
    • The Nx Server application should run well – make sure to follow minimum hardware specs when designing your virtual machine.

Nx Meta Desktop Client Application

The Nx Meta Desktop application is a rich media player with a flexible GRID interface, unmatched speed and responsiveness, instant notifications, an embedded browser, and more.

Microsoft Windows Operating System
The Nx Desktop Client application runs on Windows and includes an installation wizard that allows installation and use in minutes on virtually any Windows device.

  • Supported Windows Versions
    • Windows 7 (July 2009)
    • Windows 8 (October 2012)
    • Windows 8.1 (October 2013)
    • Windows 10 (July 2015)
    • Windows Server 2008 (February 2008)
    • Windows Server 2008 R2 (July 2009)
    • Windows Server 2012 (August 2012)
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 (October 2013)
    • Windows 10 Enterprise (July 2015)
  • Minimum Supported Hardware Spec
The Nx Desktop Client application requires a CPU with OpenGL 2.1 support, Intel HD Graphics and 1GB RAM to run. Recommended minimum CPU for a good experience (Nx Meta’s Client application almost exclusively runs on the CPU and does not leverage GPUs) is an Intel dual core Core i3 or equivalent.

Ubuntu Linux Operating System

The Nx Desktop Client application supports Ubuntu Linux operating system with an installation package which must be installed using terminal.

  • Supported Ubuntu Linux Versions
    • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS: “Xenial Xerus” (April 2016)
